Unique surgery for talus total replacement
The unique surgery for talus total replacement was carried out in the traumatologic and orthopedics department of the Foot Surgery Center in the City Clinical Hospital n.a. S.S. Yudin.
Patient, f, 69 years old, from the Vladimir region, was being monitored in the City Clinical Hospital n.a. S.S. Yudin since 2018. She was admitted to the department with aseptic necrosis of the talus of the both feet.
The complexity and specialness of the performed operation was in the fact that the patient has complete destruction of the talus on both feet.
In the world orthopedic practice, there are few cases of talus total replacement with custom made endoprosthesis based on computer modeling. In these cases, a healthy foot serves as a template for the talus endoprosthesis manufacturing.
There is nothing in this case for coping and modeling of the affected foot area. Thanks to the scientists and engineers of the company MOJE Keramik-Implantate (Tomsk) it was possible to model the physiological shape of the talus. The total individual ceramic talus endoprosthesis was done of the modern ultra-strong, biocompatible material — stabilized zirconium ceramics. There are no talus replacement cases with bilateral diseases in domestic and foreign sources.
The manufacturing and surgery of the unique endoprosthesis were carried out in the compulsory health insurance system under the compulsory medical insurance policy. We highly appreciate professionalism and efficiency team work of doctors and engineers. We plan the talus joint replacement of the second foot.
Earlier in Russia, only two similar surgeries were performed using a custom made ceramic talus endoprosthesis, but with the aseptic necrosis of the talus — on one foot.
